2016 Australian Jamboree Information Night - Thursday 8th May

Dear Scouts and Parents,

What is the Australian Jamboree? Well, it's only the biggest and best event in the Australian Scouting calendar. So big in fact, that it only runs every three years! Over 10,000 Scouts will converge on Cataract Scout Camp, Appin NSW, to camp for 2 glorious weeks of fun, fantastic adventure and friendship and it starts in only 620 days.

It is that time again to start preparing for the next Jamboree – based on age criteria set down (11.5 to 15 Years as of the 2nd January 2016) your child is eligible to attend AJ2016 (there are also criteria in relation to badge work achieved, nights under canvas and a recommendation from the Scout Leader which also must be met in order to attend Jamboree).

This is the biggest event in a Scout’s life and is going to happen in January 2016. The Jamboree is where Scouts from all over Australia (and even some internationals) get together and have a massive camp. In fact about 9,000 Scouts went to the last Jamboree in January 2013 in QLD. The next Jamboree is being held in Sydney and will run for about 10 days plus travel days.

We will be running an information session on Thursday 8th May 2014, at 7:00pm (2nd week of Term 2) to talk about a Jamboree as an event but more so to start fundraising and raising awareness in our group. The cost will come to approximately $1500 (officially amounts still to be released). This is a huge cost to parents, but to help with that, we can instigate some really good fundraising. We will discuss this further on the night. I do understand how tough the financial burden is but I wish to know if people are interested in fundraising.

This meeting is mainly for the parents. So please come along to see what they can look forward to at the Jamboree. If you need to bring along other children, because you can’t get a babysitter that is fine. It is important that you make it to see what happens and how to make it as easy as possible for your child to attend.

Can you please RSVP by Tuesday 6th May, so I can organise some supper.

If you would like to know anything more please contact me.

Yours in Scouting

Scouts - State Rally

Hi Everyone,

Coffs Scouts will be attending State Rally this year again. This will be the highlight camp of the Year. Coffs have come in first place in the Region Section for the last 2 years, so we need to defend this.

State Rally will be held at Cataract Scout Park in Sydney on the last weekend of the next School Holidays 11th to 13th July.

We will be travelling down by coach early on the Friday Morning and returning back late on the Sunday Night.

The cost this year will be about $180, this includes Travel, Camp Fees and Food while at Cataract, (this may decrease depending on the number of scouts attending, which willl decrease travel costs). There will be extra cost for some food stops while travelling.

I need to know who is interested in attending by Thursday 22nd May. As we need to regisiter and pay by 10th June.

If you need more info please contact me.

Scouts - Region Rally

Region Rally is our Major Region Camp for the Year.

I would like many of you as Possible to attend the Rally to represent Coffs Harbour.

Please bring the A1 and Direct Deposit the Money into the Coffs Scout Account by this Thursday Please. If you can not please make arrangements with me to do this after the date. Please follow the  directions below,

Payment is by Direct deposit into our Holiday Coast Credit Union Scout Account (thats the same account  where you pay your fees), and is due by the 21st March-along with the A1. When you make the deposit ensure you put the code  with your "[Family name] ccamp" so I will know you have paid.  Write the date of the payment and the transaction reference number on the very bottom for the first page of the A1 (thats the page you hand back to the leader).  Your leader will not accept any A1's that do not have the date of payment and reference number written on them.  This is a new procedure that will apply to all future camps, for all sections.

A1 - Region Rally 2014

We will be spending the next few Scouts nights preparing for State Rally so you all know what is going to happen.

Region Rally is Light Weight Camping, You will be hiking into Camp Eagle Eye with all your Stuff on your Back. You will need a Hiking Pack to Carry your stuff in. If you do not have one, you do not have to run out and buy one, you could look around to see if you could borrow one. If you do want buy one, please speak to me prior to buying  one as I can give you some tips in buying one to suit you. You will require Hiking Packs a lot through your Scouting Life, so you would consider it worth while if you were to purchase one.

In your packs you will have, your clothes, sleeping gear, food and part of a tent. You are only allowed to carry 20% of your body weight. We will have a test run prior to Rally for you to test it out. You will have your pack weighed on the Friday Night.

Any Questions please let me know, as I reckon a lot of you do.
