Scouts - Venturers - Beaskin 2015

2 Coffs Harbour Scout Patrols competed in the 2nd Annual Bearskin event at Barcoongere State Forest recently (5th-6th September).
They competed against other scouts from as far away as Byron Bay, Lismore, Kyogle, Murwillumbah, Grafton, Bellingen, Nambucca, Port Macquarie, Wauchope and Camden Haven for the prized Bearskin
The scouts navigated around the forest, with their lightweight camping equipment, and competed in a range of challenges before establishing a campsite for the night.
Challenges during the weekend included First Aid, a commando course, tree climbing, crate stacking, and a high wire course. Participants were also involved in navigation, knot tying, an obstacle course, codes and signals, fire lighting and camp cooking.
Steve Pickering : Leader and Mentor “It is so rewarding to see the youth putting into practice all the skills they learn in scouting.  These weekends are a vital part of our program”
Phil Nickl : Venturer Scout and chief organiser for 2015  “it was an awesome event - we can bear-ly wait till next year “
Forestry Corporation generously provided a professional photographer out to shoot some photos and they have made them available for members.
